Summary

A COOLING SYSTEM IS DESIGNED FOR THE ROTOR OF A LARGE-SCALE SUPERCONDUCTING GENERATOR. THE PAPER DESCRIBES THE FLOW PATH AND THE THERMODYNAMIC BEHAVIOURS OF THE HELIUM COOLANT IN THE SYSTEM AND GIVES THE CALCULATION RESULTS. THIS SYSTEM IS CAPABLE OF KEEPING A CONSTANT LIQUID HELIUM LEVEL IN THE ROTOR AND, BY USE OF A SO-CALLED SELF-PUMPING COOLING CYCLE OF HELIUM, REDUCING THE TEMPERATURES AT THE AXIS AND AT THE PERIPHERY OF THE ROTOR TO WELL BELOW 3 K AND 4 K RESPECTIVELY.
