DETERMINATION OF THE TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION IN AN EXTENDED SURFACE WITH A NONUNIFORM HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT.

Author(s) : UNAL H. C.

Type of article: Article

Summary

ASSUMING THAT THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IS A POWER FUNCTION OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TEMPERATURE OF A STRAIGHT FIN OF RECTANGULAR PROFILE AND THAT OF THE FLUID SURROUNDING THE FIN, THE VALUES OF THE EXPONENT IN THE POWER FUNCTION ARE GIVEN FOR WHICH A CLOSED-FORM SOLUTION FOR ONE-DIMENSIONAL TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION IN THE FIN CAN BE DERIVED PRACTICALLY. FOR NUCLEATE BOILING OF MANY SIGNIFICANT LIQUIDS, THIS CLOSED-FORM SOLUTION IS PRESENTED IN DETAIL TOGETHER WITH THE FIN EFFECTIVENESS AND FIN EFFICIENCY.
