Summary

THE STUDY REPORTS NUCLEATE POOL BOILING RESULTS FOR 2 HYDROCARBON MIXTURES BOILING ON THE NEW GEWA-TX ENHANCED BOILING TUBE. THIS TUBE IS AN IMPROVED VERSION OF THE WIDELY STUDIED GEWA-T TUBE. THE NEW TUBE WAS OBSERVED TO HAVE A BOILING PERFORMANCE RANGING FROM ABOUT 4 TO 10 TIMES THAT OF AN ORDINARY SMOOTH TUBE OPERATING AT THE SAME HEAT FLUX AND UP TO 44 TIMES WHEN COMPARED AT THE SAME WALL SUPERHEAT. THE OVERALL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT FOR A REBOILER EVAPORATING A WIDE BOILING RANGE MIXTURE CAN BE INCREASED TO 5 TIMES THAT OF A CONVENTIONAL PLAIN TUBE REBOILER.
