DETERMINATION OF TRANSIENT MASS FLOW RATE OF A RESIDENTIAL AIR-TO-AIR HEAT PUMP OPERATING IN THE TRANSIENT MODE.

Summary

A SYSTEM HAS BEEN DESIGNED AND BUILT THATWILL ACCURATELY MEAS URE THE CHANGE IN MASS OF EACH COMPONENT OF A RESIDENTIAL HEAT PUMP OR AIR CONDITIONER OPERATING IN A TRANSIENT MODE. THE MASS RATE OF FLOW LEAVING THE COMPRESSOR IS ALSO MEASURED AS A FUNCTION OF TIME. USING THIS MASS RATE OF REFRIGERANT FLOW AND THE CHANGE IN MASS OF EACH COMPONENT AS A FUNCTION OF TIME, THE MASS FLOW RATE ENTERING AND LEAVING EACH COMPONENT OF THE SYSTEM AS A FUNCTION OF TIME CAN BE CALCULATED. THIS CHANGE IN MASS IS CONTINUOUSLY MEASURED WHILE THE SYSTEM IS IN OPERO THE RESULTS LOOK VERY PROMISING AS A METHOD TO OBTAIN MUCH NEEDED EXPERIMENTAL DATA ON TRANSIENT MASS FLOW BEHAVIOR.
