DEVELOPMENT AND VERIFICATION OF A THERMAL MODEL OF LAKES USED WITH WATER-SOURCE HEAT PUMPS.

Summary

THE PAPER REPORTS ON THE DEVELOPMENT AND VERIFICATION OF A THERMAL MODEL FOR LAKES IN SOUTHERN CLIMATES. A DESCRIPTION OF THE MODES OF HEAT TRANSFER TO, FROM, AND WITHIN LAKES IS GIVEN TWO MODELS ARE NECESSARY. A BULK MODEL ASSUMES THAT AN ISOTHERMAL LAKE CAN BE USED FOR SHALLOW LAKES AND LAKES WITH HIGH INFLOW RATES. DEEPER LAKES REQUIRE A MORE COMPLEX MODEL. VERIFICATION OF THE CODE WAS PERFORMED BY COMPARING THE RESULTS OF THE SIMULATION WITH AN EXTENSIVE SET OF THERMAL SURVEYS. THE CODE IS A VALUABLE TOOL FOR DETERMINING THE ACCEPTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE OF LAKE WATER HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS.
