Summary

PLATE-TYPE EVAPORATORS WITH FILM FLOW ON THE WATER SIDE AND NATURAL CIRCULATION OF THE REFRIGERANT ARE USED IN SEVERAL LARGE WATER BASED HEAT PUMPS. THIS PAPER DEALS WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CALCULATION METHOD FOR SUCH EVAPORATORS, BASED ON EXTENSIVE MEASUREMENTS. THE INVESTIGATED PLATES HAVE VERTICAL CHANNELS WITH RECTANGULAR CROSS SECTIONS. A SIMPLE CALCULATION METHOD FOR THE MEAN INTERNAL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IS DERIVED, AND ALSO A CORRECTION FACTOR WHICH TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEORETICAL AND ACTUAL TEMPERATURE PROFILES OF REFRIGERANT AND WATER.
