Development of a combined compressor-expander for transcritical CO2 system.

Author(s) : YANG J., ZHANG L., CHENG J., et al.

Summary

The most effective way to improve the efficiency of the transcritical CO2 cycle is to replace the throttling valve with an expander. For the recovery of the expansion work of the expander, an effective way is direct work return from the expander to the compressor. In this paper, a hermetic combined compressor-expander was proposed. The compression part is a two-stage rolling piston type compressor. The expansion part is a two-cylinder rolling piston expander without inlet valve and outlet valve. The prototype of the combined compressor-expander has been developed. The compressor and the expander have been studied separately and the performance of the compressor part has been comprehensively measured on a CO2 compressor performance test rig.
