Summary
Glass door refrigerated display cabinets (RDCs) are widely employed in food retail stores to display and preserve food products. To enhance the energy efficiency of the RDCs, this study developed a compressor control logic based on heat load prediction. Various door opening scenarios were designed to establish the heat load regression model. Also, the cooling capacity of the compressor at different frequencies was measured. After establishing regression models for heat load and cooling capacity, the compressor operating frequency can be optimally adjusted to match the predicted heat load in various door opening scenarios. The test package center temperature and electricity consumption were measured and compared under different control logics. The experimental results show that after normalization to the same temperature level, the heat load prediction control logic averagely saved electricity by 12.7% compared to constant frequency control and 5.3% compared to variable frequency control.
