Summary

ACOMPACT DILUTION REFRIGERATOR WITHOUT PUMPED HELIUM 4 BATH HAS BEEN BUILT AND OPERATED TO 32 MILLIK CONTINUOUSLY. THIS MACHINE UTILIZES HEAT EXCHANGE WITH EVAPORATED HELIUM 3 FROM THE STILL AND J-T EXPANSION OF THE INSTREAMING HELIUM 3 TO CONDENSE IT AND HAS BEEN USED TO FIND OUT FURTHER POSSIBLE SIMPLIFICATION AND EASE OF OPERATION. A CRYOGENIC HELIUM 3 CIRCULATION SYSTEM SHOULD MAKE THE WHOLE SYSTEM TRANSPORTABLE. OPTIMIZATION OF HELIUM 3 ADSORPTION REGENERATION PUMP-COMPRESSOR OPERATION WITH THE LEAST POSSIBLE LIQUID HELIUM CONSUMPTION OR HEAT LOAD IS STUDIED TOGETHER WITH COLD VALVES DEVELOPMENT.
