Development of an ammonia-water based vapour compression heat pump.

Author(s) : RANE M. V., KUKREJA G.

Summary

A heat pump using ammonia-water mixture has been designed for simultaneously providing chilled water at 5 deg C and hot water at 55 deg C. Optimum cooling COP as high as 4.96 and simultaneous heating COP of about 5.8 is predicted using a simulation program. The program simulates the wet compression heat pump cycle with realistic temperature driving potentials in all the heat exchanges and compressor and motor efficiency. Optimum composition of the working fluid was found to be a mixture of 80% ammonia and 20% water. Design of the heat pump and details of computer simulation results are presented.
