Summary

HCFC-22 has been widely used as a refrigerant in air conditioners. According to the Montreal Protocol for ozone layer protection, phaseout has to be done by 2030. The azeotropic refrigerant mixture R410A is selected as the alternative refrigerant for HCFC-22. Performance improvement and reliability securing is necessary for room air conditioners using R410A. The performance was improved by improvements in the heat exchanger, compressor and inverter circuit. Reliability was achieved through improvements in the compressor and refrigerating circuit.
