Summary

Currently used refrigerants like HFC-410A have high GWP and give certain impact to global environment. The demand for CO2 as an alternative refrigerant is getting higher because it has low GWP and safer characteristics. But the theoretical COP of CO2 air-conditioning systems is lower than HFC systems because the cycle operates in trans-critical condition. The object of this study is to develop the residential CO2 multi-split air-conditioning system using the two-phase expandercompressor unit to achieve at least the same system performance compared to the similar system with HFCs. As the result, we achieved the target of the APF 4.6 by the development of the heat exchangers, the volume optimization of the two-phase expander-compressor and the reduction of the various losses.
