Development of reversible heat pumps with CO2 as refrigerant that combines ventilation and heating of domestic hot water.
Author(s) : PEDERSEN S. V.
Summary
During recent years, more and more CO2 heat pumps have appeared in the market, especially from Japan. Denmark also has been busy developing CO2 heat pumps and there is a great interest in the development of heat pumps that utilize natural refrigerants. Special focus has been placed on transcritical CO2. This presentation focuses on results and experience gained in two heat pump projects utilizing heat pumps for houses. The projects were carried out by Danish Technological Institute and transcritical CO2 was used. The projects are: CO2 used in domestic hot water heat pumps; CO2 used in HVAC systems combined with tap water production. This presentation describes the design of the two systems and elaborate on the experience that has been gained through the development work. Finally, this presentation introduces which conditions are necessary to obtain a high COP with transcritical COP in heat pumps.
