Summary

An experimental test-rig is designed and developed to carry out sorption characteristics of ammonia and chloride salts. Enthalpy and entropy of formation needed for development of thermodynamic design data required for sorption refrigeration system are estimated from the experimental results. Data are developed for sorption of ammonia with BaCl2, SrCl2 and binary mixture of BaCl2 and SrCl2. Results obtained on the sorption data of pure salts agree well with published results. However, no reliable data on salt mixtures is available in literature. This gap is addressed in the present study. Results show that the reaction enthalpy and entropy of
mixture of BaCl2-SrCl2 are lower than that of pure BaCl2 and SrCl2. It is expected that this study which demonstrates the influence of mixing of sorbents on thermodynamic properties is useful in the synthesis and evaluation of new sorbents suitable for solid sorption based refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
