Summary

The working range of the high temperature superconductors is about 20 to 80 K. The classical cooling systems in this temperature range are: Claude or Brayton cycle as well as Stirling and Gifford-McMahon cycles. Pulse tube refrigerator, Joule-Thomson cycles with mixtures and neon as refrigerant are in development. The different processes are described, compared and rated.
