Summary
THIS PAPER BRIEFLY REPORTS THE CONCEPT OF THE NUMBER OF TRANSFER UNITS (NTU), SHOWING THE ADVANTAGES OF ITS USE, MAINLY FOR COMPLEX ARRANGEMENTS OF REFRIGERANT CIRCUITS INSIDE EXCHANGE VOLUMES. NTU ADVANTAGEOUSLY REPLACES THE USUAL CHARTS BASED ON THE USE OF THE AVERAGE LOGARITHMIC TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE. THE CONCEPT OF NTU MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE OPERATING TEMPERATURES WHEN THE CONDITIONS OF USE ARE ALTERED AND TO PREDICT THE DEVELOPMENT OF FLUID AND WALL TEMPERATURES WITHOUT USING COMPLEX EQUATIONS. IT IS SHOWN THAT THERE IS A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NTU, PRESSURE DROP AND THE CIRCULATION RATE OF FLUIDS.
