Summary

This work presents the experimental evaluation of an indirect refrigeration system as alternative to a direct expansion system for commercial use in medium temperature applications. A direct expansion system operating with R134a or R507A is contrasted to the same refrigeration system but with a secondary fluid loop to compensate the heat load of a commercial medium temperature cabinet. The tests were performed at laboratory conditions at three heat rejection levels (23.3, 32.8 and 43.6°C with 1 m3·h-1 water flow rate) maintaining an average product temperature inside the cabinet of 2°C. The work focus on temperature and pressure indications in the refrigeration system, as well as, in the energy impact of the indirect system in a possible conversion process.
