Summary

STRESSES THE NEED TO CONTROL BIOFILMS IN COOLING TOWERS AND TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF THE SELECTED BIOCIDE. LISTS AND DISCUSSES THE FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF HYPOCHLORIDE SANITATION. SETS OUT THE CHARACTERISTICS OF AN IDEAL BIOCIDE. EXPLAINS HOW ALL THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE MET BY CHLORINE DIOXIDE AND POINTS OUT THAT THE INSTABILITY WHICH HAS BEEN ITS CHIEF DRAWBACK HAS BEEN OVERCOME BY THE DEVELOPMENT OF A STABLE FORM. CONSIDERS THAT CHLORINE DIOXIDE HAS NONE OF THE DRAWBACKS ASSOCIATED WITH CHLORINE, AND ITS A FAR SUPERIOR BIOCIDE FOR THE TREATMENT OF COOLING TOWER WATER THAN MOST BIOCIDES IN USE TODAY. (INT.
