Summary
The drop-in heat pump water heater (HPWH) is a replacement for conventional 190- or 300-litre electric water heaters. The new heater differs from other HPWHs in its simplicity and ease of installation. It has the same installation requirements as a conventional heater but consumes only about half of the energy. The cost of the heater is about USD 500 more than for a conventional 190-litre water heater, but the energy savings can yield a payback period of between two and three years.
