Dynamic modelling of a small-scale NH3/H2O absorption chiller.

Summary

The paper presents a dynamic model of a single-effect air-cooled solar-driven NH3/H2O absorption chiller that simulates the chiller's transient behaviour during start-up. Much effort was given to the realistic prediction of the composition and volume changes of the working fluids in major components. The model predicted that the chiller would react quite sensitively to some design and operation parameters. The initial charging amount of solution and its refrigerant concentration were shown to greatly affect the chiller's performance. The model is believed to be able to optimize and troubleshoot small-scale NH3/H2O absorption chillers.
