Dynamic simulation of air separation plants and the use of "relative gain analysis" for design of control systems.

Summary

The paper describes the steady-state simulation of an air separation plant, determination of the pertinent steady-state "relative gains", and design of an initial control system structure based on this information. In the next step the "relative gains" are determined in the frequency domain. Based on the interpretation of this dynamic information the number of combinations coming into consideration is further reduced. Final assessment of the suitability of control structures including quantitative considerations can only be made with rigorous dynamic simulation. Therefore several simulations have been performed to illustrate the results from "Relative Gain Analysis".
