Dynamic simulation of the refrigerated compartment of a truck coupled with its refrigeration system.

Summary

This paper proposes a numerical model to simulate, in dynamic regime, the refrigerated compartment of a truck coupled with its refrigeration machine. The model is composed of sub-models of the key components: evaporator, condenser, compressor and expansion valve, developed in the DYMOLA environment with the air-conditioning library. The model of the refrigerated compartment, developed with the Modelica language, is based on mass and energy balances of the air inside the compartment. Heat exchanges through the walls, including the thermal bridges, are calculated. Another sub-model determines the heat and humidity exchanges during the door openings. Simulations were performed with the whole model to verify the results consistency. These simulations were used to determine the time evolutions of the compressor power and cooling capacity and the effects of air infiltration through the door on the temperature in the compartment.
