Economic benefit of 100K temperature lift with natural refrigerant heat pumps.
Number: 0008
Author(s) : HOFFMANN K.
Summary
The urge to decarbonise and minimise Europe’s dependency on natural gas, creates increased focus on ammonia heat pumps for ever increasing temperature ranges. A few years ago, most heat pumps were based on lifting the temperature 20K to 50K, we now see demands with more than 100K temperature lift. This set higher demands for the reachable temperatures with ammonia heat pumps and require heat pumps developments with other natural refrigerants. High efficiency solutions are key to the realisation of these high temperature project. This paper presents some of the latest development within high temperature ammonia heat pump and investigates the ongoing development of combining ammonia heat pumps with steam compression for heat pumps solution above 100°C.
