Summary

The document gives the status (in 1990) of all types of refrigeration equipment from the point of view of refrigerant use and energy consumption. The grouping of the equipment is in two parts, equipment operation and branch of industry; the number of installations in these categories is evaluated together with the type and quantity of refrigerant used in each case (the results are somewhat controversial). The overall power consumption is estimated as being 9% of the total French consumption in 1990. Problems posed by the Montreal Protocol are brought to mind. J.R.
