Summary

With a drop in volume of production and a decrease in the trade surplus and prices, in 1998 the French food industry encountered a much less favourable context than that seen in 1997. However, high domestic demand enabled the industry to maintain a satisfactory level of activity. 1999 figures are likely to be similar.
