Effect of calcium and prestorage heat-treatments on the storage behaviour of "Raike" and "Red atlas" apples.

Author(s) : DRIS R., NISKANEN R.

Summary

Preharvest calcium spraying on fruitlets has been reported to reduce the incidence of physiological storage disorders in apples. Prestorage heat treatment of apples has been shown to affect the postharvest quality by delaying ripening and reducing ethylene production rate. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of calcium chloride spraying or heat treatments on storage behaviour of two commercial apple cultivars.
