Effect of comfort constraints and compressor sizing on the cycle efficiency of R410A and R744.

Author(s) : SONG S., BULLARD C. W.

Summary

Compared with R410A systems, heat pumps using carbon dioxide refrigerant have higher capacities at low evaporating temperatures. This results in less need for supplementary heating in winter, thus increasing the seasonal heating efficiency of CO2. Depending on the climate, this advantage could outweigh the cooling efficiency disadvantage experienced by CO2 at high ambient temperatures.
