Summary

EXPERIMENTS ON THE EVAPORATION OF A LITHIUM BROMIDE AQUEOUS SOLUTION (0-55 WT% LITHIUM BROMIDE) WERE MADE IN AN EXTERNALLY HEATED WETTED-WALL COLUMN UNDER REDUCED PRESSURES. THE EVAPORATION RATES OF 5 AND 8 WT% WATER-LITHIUM BROMIDE SOLUTIONS WERE SIMILAR TO THOSE OF WATER. THE EVAPORATION RATES, HOWEVER, LOWERED WITH A FURTHER INCREASE IN THE LITHIUM BROMIDE CONCENTRATION AND AT LOW FEED RATES THE EVAPORATION RATES LOWERED WITH A DECREASE IN THE FEED RATE BECAUSE OF THE TEMPERATURE RISE IN THE FALLING FILM. AT HIGH FEED RATES THE EVAPORATION RATES LOWERED WITH AN INCREASE IN THE FEED RATES BECAUSE THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS OF THE FALLING FILM DECREASED. EXPERIMENTAL DATA AGREED WITH NUMERICALLY CALCULATED VALUES BASED ON THE UNIDIRECTIONAL MODEL THAT LITHIUM BROMIDE DID NOT MOVE THROUGH THE FALLING FILM.
