Effect of controller gain on control loop response.
Author(s) : HORAN T.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The articles start with a definition of controller gain. The effect of changes in gain are explained and the explanation used to describe the achievement of control setting objectives. These are to minimise response error, the settling time, and the steady state error. Three further criteria, critical damping, quarter-amplitude decay and absolute area of response are also explained and their achievement illustrated. It is emphasised that all these facets except the last should be a matter of fine tuning in the field. D.W.H.
