IN THE FIRST OF THREE ARTICLES, THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES AUTOMATIC LINE VALVES FOR REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS. THESE INCLUDE DIRECT AND PILOT-OPERATED SOLENOID VALVES, PRESSURE REGULATING VALVES FOR INLET, OUTLET, OR DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE CONTROL, AND SERVO-VALVES OPERATED BY DISCHARGE PRESSURE. THE SECOND ARTICLE DEALS WITH THE USE AND INSTALLATION OF THE ABOVE FOR THE PRESSURE CONTROL AND HOT-GAS DEFROSTING OF FLOODED EVAPORATORS OF PUMP RECIRCULATION OR GRAVITY TYPES. PARTICULAR REFERENCE IS MADETO THE USE OF DISCHARGE PRESSURE OPERATED VALVES WHICH MAY BE USED TO CLOSE FLOW IN EITHER DIRECTION AND MAY BE INSTALLED ON THEIR SIDES TO AVOID GAS-LOCKING PROBLM NQDLE THE FINAL ARTICLE CONCERNS INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE OF THESE CONTROLS AND PROVIDES A GOOD CHECKLIST OF SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ANYONE LIKELY TO BE INVOLVED, PARTICULARLY AROUND THE DANGERS OF LIQUID REFRIGERANT EXPANSION AND REFRIGERANT ESCAPE.
