Summary
A study was done on a reciprocating compressor using carbon dioxide as a refrigerant. Cylinder leaks on the compressor valves and the port were measured. The results were fed into a program for simulating the processes inside the compressor. It was found that, in spite of the high pressure difference, the leaks in the compression chamber that occur when CO2 is used as a refrigerant have only a negligible effect on the internal working process of oil-lubricated compressors.
