Effect of low temperature on sugar content, respiration rate and quality of Anthurium flowers.

Type of article: Article
Summary
Results showed that the sugar content of flowers stored at 14 °C for 10-15 days was lower than that of flowers stored at 4 °C. Sugar content decreased with increasing rates of respiration. Storage at all temperatures, but particularly at 4 °C, promoted discoloration of flowers. Changes in flower colour had no relation to sugar content. Changing the storage conditions (temperature) did not improve discoloration. Treatment of flowers before storage at 4 and 14 °C for 15 days with 2.5% DMSO did not improve discoloration.
