Summary

In order to improve vase life and to reduce the abscission of vigorous flower buds and bent neck of cut roses cv. Ariana grown in plastic houses, different pre- and postharvest treatments were combined. The longest vase life was obtained with the treatments Ca+NAA+Chrysal and Ca + NAA + Florissima (11.4 and 9.6 days, respectively, compared to 7.3 days with the control). The individual treatments with Ca or NAA at preharvest (and postharvest treatment with Chrysal of Florissima) had the highest bent neck percentages (more than 63%) after 7 days. It is suggested that there might be a synergistic effect between NAA and CaO which decreases some parameters associated with senescence in Ariana cut roses.
