Summary
The best overall treatment was 3.5% O2 + 6% CO2 at 5 deg C, which produced significantly firmer fruits with less ethylene production than controls (0 Deg C in ambient atmosphere). Results indicated that suitable controlled atmospheres were as effective as low temperatures in reducing fruit softening, ethylene production and chlorophyll degradation.
