Effects of longitudinal fin space and fin alignment on the performance of finned-tube heat exchangers under frosting conditions.

Author(s) : KIM Y. H., JANG Y. H., KIM Y. C., et al.

Summary

In the paper, the performance of finned-tube heat exchangers used in a domestic refrigerator was investigated under frosting conditions. The objectives of this study are to find out the optimum design parameters to increase operating time and cooling capacity. The effects of design parameters, such as fin type, pin pitch, fin alignment, and longitudinal fin space were experimentally investigated. In addition, the frosting process was visualized to understand the mechanisms of frost growth. Based on the experimental results, the optimum design specifications for fin alignment and longitudinal fin space are suggested to avoid the blockage of airflow passage and to increase cooling capacity.
