Summary

Kiwifruit were sprayed up to three times during fruit development. Fruits sprayed preharvest with calcium chloride solutions exhibited lower softening rates compared to the controls at both 20 and 0 deg C storage temperatures and quality was maintained. The storage life of the control fruit was 5 and 18 weeks at 20 and 0 deg C, and extended by 5 and 10 weeks for fruit sprayed with 0.75% calcium chloride or by 10 and 18 weeks for fruit sprayed with 1.5% calcium chloride, respectively.
