Summary

Hydroponically grown endives were harvested, packed in polystyrene trays covered with vinyl film or in low density polyethylene bags or P-Plus polyethylene bags, and stored for 3 weeks at 5 °C. Microbiological analysis indicated that Pseudomonas and enterobacteria were the principal microbial contaminants. Endive quality was commercially acceptable after 3 weeks' storage in all films, but storage in polystyrene trays covered with Borden Vinilo resulted in the lowest microbial counts.
