EFFICIENCY OF COMPRESSOR HEAT PUMPS AND REFRIGERATORS DERIVED FROM THE SECOND LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS.

Author(s) : ALEFELD G.

Type of article: Article, IJR article

Summary

STARTING FROM THE SECOND LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS AN ALTERNATIVE CALCULATION METHOD YIELDING ANALYTIC EQUATIONS FOR THE COP HAVE BEEN DERIVED. THE NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT FLUID PROPERTIES IS REDUCED TO A FEW NON-DIMENSIONAL PARAMETERS. FOR HALOGENATED HYDROCARBONS THE MOST RELEVANT PARAMETER IS THE RATIO CT/R, WHERE C IS THE SPECIFIC HEAT CAPACITY OF THE LIQUID, RIS THE HEAT OF VAPORIZATION, AND T IS THE EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE. THE METHOD YIELDS QUALITY FACTORS BY WHICH THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A PROCESS OR OF A WORKING FLUID CAN BE CHARACTERIZED.
