Efficient use of waste heat from combined heating and power machines for building cooling.

Author(s) : EAMES I. W., WU S.

Summary

In order to maintain the highest energy cost savings when operating a combined heating and power system, it is important to keep the heat-to-power ratio close to unity. To achieve this during summer months, the waste heat should be used to provide cooling through the use of a suitable absorption refrigerator. The design of the refrigerator needs to make best of the heat available. The research so far suggests that it is thermodynamically more efficient to utilize the waste heat in the exhaust gases and jacket cooling water separately, at their supply temperatures, rather than blending them together to form a heat source at some mean temperatures. Solutions are proposed in the paper.
