Summary
The problem of removing the oil droplets from flow exists in air compressor installations as well as compression refrigeration systems. Usage of oil is necessary in the helical and piston compressors. Removal of small oil droplets is very difficult mainly for droplets which are smaller than few micrometers, especially with using the conventional cyclones and filters. Auxiliary filters generate the large resistance of flow. The separation of oil droplets is also important in all compression refrigerating systems. The presence of oil droplets in the refrigerating system causes the increase of the resistance of flow and decrease of heat transfer in the evaporator and condenser. The electrostatic method of charging particles or droplets and removing them from flow is proposed for refrigeration cycles and heat pumps. The paper deals with separation of oil droplets from R507 refrigerant high-pressure vapour stream. In the electrostatic oil droplets separation one of the most important problem is influence of the electrical discharge on the refrigerant chemical stability. The infrared spectroscopy is used to investigate the chemical stability of refrigerant. The experimental results is presented in this paper. This paper shows the evidence that the corona discharge does not influence on the chemical stability of refrigerant R507. The system of cylindrical electrode with a center discharge wire electrode have been applied in the experiments. The experimental results presented in this paper showed that the electrostatic oil separation method could be effectively applied for compression systems.
