Summary

Cold storage plays a pivotal role in ensuring the preservation of food and the integrity of the cold chain logistics. Nevertheless, their advancement is constrained by substantial energy consumption and the potential compromise of food quality. In response, a cold storage refrigeration system is proposed utilizing CO2 as a refrigerant, coupled with an innovative flashing condenser design. Simultaneously, the cold storage uses an automated equipment for loading and unloading cargo, reducing the potential for cold capacity loss due to human factors. Subsequently, the efficacy of the proposed cold storage system was substantiated through experimental data conducted across two distinct climatic zones (Subtropical monsoon climate/ Continental monsoon climate). The findings derived from these experimental endeavours signify that the cold storage facility sustains a precise temperature of -16 to -18°C, ensuring an exceptional temperature homogeneity with variations not surpassing 1.0°C across distinct monitoring locations. Simultaneously, there is a significant reduction in power consumption. In subtropical monsoon climate (Changsha case), the typical monthly average electricity consumption is 0.034 kWh/(m3∙d), compared to 0.025 kWh/(m3∙d) in continental monsoon climate (Changchun case). Consequently, the incorporation of this innovative design holds promising prospects for elevating the performance standards of both cold chain transportation and cold storage facilities, promising to usher in enhanced benchmarks for these critical domains.
