Summary

RECENT EFFORTS TO COPE WITH THE PROBLEM OF ENERGY IN FOOD AND AGRICULTURAL REFRIGERATION ACTIVITIES. 1. COLD PRODUCTION: IMPROVEMENT OF THE ENERGETIC EFFICIENCY OF THE CONVENTIONAL COMPRESSION SYSTEM ; COLD PRODUCTION FROM INDUSTRIAL THERMAL DISCHARGE OR FROM SOLAR ENERGY (4 SYSTEMS) ; 2. DECREASE IN THE ENERGY CONSUMED AT THE VARIOUS LINKS OF THE COLD CHAIN (EXAMPLES OF ARRANGEMENTS AT THE STAGES OF COOLING PROPER, STORAGE, DISTRIBUTION, HOUSEHOLD EQUIPMENT) ; 3. HEAT PUMP: EITHER ONLY RECOVERY OF HEAT DISCHARGED BY THE EXISTING CONDENSERS OF REFRIGERATING PLANT, OR MACHINES INSTALLED FOR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS. VARIOUS EXAMPLES AT THE LEVEL OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION AND FOOD AND AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRIES. ENERGY CONSIDERATIONS MAY BRING ABOUT SOME CHANGES IN ATTITUDE IN THE USE OF REFRIGERATION ; MORE GENERALLY, THEY LEAD TO A REFINEMENT OF ENERGY MANAGEMENT.
