Energy conservation with chilled-water storage.

Summary
The fitting of this chilled water thermal storage tank was combined with a radical redesign of the water circuits to optimise temperature differences and mass flows. Stratification within the tank is maintained by a low-velocity slot inlet ring. Water is now redirected for heat reclaim. The design strategy is to keep the chillers fully loaded while on line, to gain maximum compressor efficiency. The peak cooling load has been reduced by 18%. The scheme has attracted a large incentive payment from the electricity utility. A.R.T.
