Energy-efficient commercial atrium buildings.
Author(s) : MILLS F. A.
Summary
The paper reports on recent research in the United Kingdom and Europe on the integration of atrium and conservatory spaces into commercial buildings. The design strategies that led to energy-efficient solutions are summarized and cost issues are considered. The results of the study are compared with a number of recently (post-1970) completed projects, some with atria and some without, commenting on the effectiveness of the design strategies employed with the benefit of hindsight from operational experience.
