Summary

The ice pack is an example of the short-term storage of cold. When this system is being charged up, ice forms at the outside of pipes in a water tank. The internal cooling of the pipes is by vaporisation of a refrigerant. If cooling is required, water is passed through the tank, and the ice imparts coldness to the water. The article shows that the main feature of the ice pack is that it is a net energy saver.
