Summary

The coil was installed in 5 locations, at the outlet side, center, inlet side, lower part and upper part of the tank. Then experiments on connected tanks were carried out. For ice-making process, the effect of agitation and coil location was examined. The agitation, for any agitation rate examined, was effective to decrease ice-making time at any locations. Temperature stratification appeared in case without agitation. For ice-making process, the dominant factor for thermal response is the Archimedes number at the inlet. For center coil location considered to be the best, effect of the standardized inlet heat flux and Archimedes number was examined. The difference of thermal response between the single tank experiments and the connected tank experiments was hardly found. Regressive equations based on the results have been proposed to predict ice storage performance.
