Summary

THE ENERGY USED TO DRIVE REFRIGERATION MACHINERY AMOUNTS TO ONLY A VERY FEW PERCENT OF THE TOTAL ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION. LITTLE HAS BEEN DONE SO FAR TO REDUCE IT, AND THE TRUE THERMODYNAMIC EFFICIENCY OF THE EQUIPMENT IS OFTEN DEPLORABLY LOW. NUMEROUS POSSIBILITIES OF ENERGY SAVING EXIST AND SHOULD BE DEVELOPED IN VIEW OF THE PRESENT SITUATION. A NUMBER OF EXAMPLES FROM PRACTICE SERVE TO DEMONSTRATE THAT VAST IMPROVEMENT IS FREQUENTLY POSSIBLE.
