AN INVESTIGATION SHOWS THAT AT 50 % REFRIGERATING CAPACITY WITH SPEED CONTROL BY A FREQUENCY INVERTER OR A 2-SPEED MOTOR, CONSIDERABLE ENERGY SAVINGS CAN BE ACHIEVED OVER CYLINDER UNLOADING. FOR R12 THE SAVINGS AMOUNT TO 35 % AND 23 % FOR R22. ASSUMING A CERTAIN TURNOVER AND ADAPTATION OF THE FREQUENCY INVERTER, ESPECIALLY FOR THIS APPLICATION, THE FREQUENCY INVERTER PAYS OFF IN 1.9-3.8 YEARS FOR R12 AND IN 3.8-7.5 YEARS FOR R22. THE 2-SPEED MOTOR PAYS OFF IN 0.9-3.5 YEARS WITH BOTH R12 AND R22.
