Summary

FAST MILK COOLING EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURED IN SWEDEN IS DESCRIBED AND ITS SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM IS GIVEN. A MIXTURE OF 3% SPIRIT AND WATER ICE CRYSTALS OF 271.5 K (-1.5 DEG C) CHILLS MILK FROM 308 TO 277 K (35 TO 4 DEG C) ; HEAT GAINED FROM COOLED MILK IS USED IN A COMPRESSOR MAKING THE ICE CRYSTALS, RESULTING IN A 50% SAVING IN ENERGY. TESTS OF THE NEW EQUIPMENT IN A DAIRY IN ITALY DURING THE SUMMER: 294 K (21 DEG C) AND WINTER: 277-279 K (4-6 DEG C) MONTHS SHOWED THAT THE HEAT RECOVERED FROM 1 LITRE OF MILK WAS SUFFICIENT TO RAISE TEMPERATURE OF 0.6 LITRE OF WATER IN SUMMER, AND 0.4 LITRE OF WATER IN WINTER TO 323 K (50 DEG C).
