Establishing the MnFePX family as a product for cooling applications: synthesis, characterization and potential of MnFePSi magnetocaloric materials.

Summary

Spherical particles of the magnetocaloric material MnxFe2-xP1-ySiy were produced by gas atomization. Magnetocaloric characteristics as heat capacity, entropy change and adiabatic temperature change were determined and found to be superior to particles made by ball milling. First tests in an active magnetocaloric refrigerator were carried out to realize the potential of this promising class of materials for solid state cooling applications.
